Sunshine Coast & Noosa
Overview
Noosa's chic beaches, the Glass House Mountains and hinterland markets define the Sunshine Coast. Expect national-park headlands, hatted cafes and volcanic peaks — a slower, prettier day north of Brisbane.
Best for: Beach + foodie travellers, nature lovers
Where you'll go
Your driver adapts the route on the day — stops can flex to suit your pace and interests.
1
Noosa Main Beach & National Park
North-facing swim beach plus a coastal walk to Hell's Gates.
About this stop
Noosa Main Beach is a rarity on Australia's east coast — it faces north, so the surf stays gentle and the sand holds sun all day. Next door, Noosa National Park's headland trail rounds a string of coves to the Hell's Gates lookout through coastal bush where wild koalas are still occasionally spotted; the whole region sits within a UNESCO-recognised biosphere reserve.
Make the most of it
Do the national park first, before the heat builds — Hell's Gates and back takes a little over an hour at a relaxed pace, and the boardwalk start from the surf-club end is the prettiest. Carry water and wear real shoes; the track is easy but exposed past Tea Tree Bay. Reward yourselves afterwards with a swim at Main Beach, which is patrolled year-round.
Why it's worth it
Few places let you walk a wild national-park coastline in the morning and swim a calm, sun-warmed beach before lunch — Noosa makes it feel effortless.
2
Hastings Street
Boutique shopping and beachfront dining.
About this stop
Hastings Street is Noosa's famous low-rise boutique strip, running just behind Main Beach beneath a canopy of trees — local planning rules have long kept buildings below the treeline, which is why Noosa looks nothing like the Gold Coast. It is the Sunshine Coast's premier address for dining, resort wear and slow people-watching.
Make the most of it
This is your lunch stop — book ahead for the beachfront dining rooms, or grab fish and chips and eat on the sand thirty metres away. Forty-five minutes to an hour is plenty for the strip itself; it's short, and the pleasure is in lingering, not covering ground. Boutique prices run resort-high, so browse freely and buy selectively.
Why it's worth it
Hastings Street is barefoot luxury at its most convincing — excellent food, sea air and not a high-rise in sight.
3
Eumundi Markets
Australia's favourite artisan market (Wed/Sat).
About this stop
Held in the hinterland town of Eumundi since 1979, these are among Australia's largest and best-known artisan markets, trading on Wednesdays and Saturdays under huge old fig trees. The founding make-it, bake-it, sew-it, grow-it rule still applies — stallholders sell what they produce themselves, from woodwork and ceramics to hinterland-grown food.
Make the most of it
Check the day first — the markets run only on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and mornings are cooler, fuller and better; by early afternoon stalls begin packing up. An hour is enough for a focused wander: head for the artisan rows and the food lanes, and skip the generic stalls near the edges. Carry some cash for the smaller makers and leave room in the day bag for purchases.
Why it's worth it
This is where the Sunshine Coast hinterland shows its hands, literally — hundreds of makers, growers and bakers under the figs, and souvenirs that were actually made here.
4
Glass House Mountains
Dramatic volcanic plugs with a lookout and lore.
About this stop
The Glass House Mountains are a cluster of volcanic plugs — the hardened cores of volcanoes active some 25–27 million years ago — rising abruptly from the coastal plain. Captain James Cook named them in 1770 for their resemblance to glass furnaces, and the peaks hold deep significance in the traditions of the Jinibara and Kabi Kabi peoples.
Make the most of it
On the run back to Brisbane, the Glass House Mountains Lookout is the efficient choice — a short stroll from the car park to a sweeping view of the peaks, ideal in the softer late-afternoon light. With more time and energy, the Mt Ngungun summit track is the one easily achievable climb of the group, roughly 60–90 minutes return with a real summit payoff. Closed shoes either way; the tracks cross rough volcanic ground.
Why it's worth it
Ancient volcanic spires rising sheer from a green plain — the Sunshine Coast's most dramatic scenery, and a cinematic full stop to the day.
