Overview

Escape the city north to Noosa and the Glass House Mountains. A full day of beaches, markets and volcanic scenery with a driver who handles the logistics.

Best for: Brisbane stays wanting a beach day

Where you'll go

Your driver adapts the route on the day — stops can flex to suit your pace and interests.

  1. 1

    Brisbane pickup

Door-to-door, north via the Bruce Highway.

    About this stop

The Bruce Highway runs north from Brisbane toward the Sunshine Coast — about 140 km to Noosa — skirting the Glass House Mountains on the way. Within the first hour the suburbs give way to pineapple farms and hinterland green.

    Make the most of it

Start by 7:30 if you can — it beats Brisbane's northbound commuters and lands you in Noosa before the day-trip crowd claims the beach. Check in the car whether Eumundi Markets run that day (Wednesdays and Saturdays); it changes the smartest loop order.

    Why it's worth it

One pickup, and the whole Sunshine Coast — surf, volcanic peaks, hinterland markets — unrolls outside your window.

  2. 2

    Glass House Mountains

    Lookout over the volcanic peaks.

    About this stop

The Glass House Mountains are volcanic plugs — the eroded cores of volcanoes active roughly 25 million years ago — rising abruptly from the coastal plain. James Cook named them in 1770 for their likeness to the glass furnaces of his native Yorkshire, and they remain deeply significant to the Jinibara and Kabi Kabi peoples.

    Make the most of it

The main lookout needs only 20–30 minutes — a viewing deck, a short loop and the story boards. Come in the morning when haze sits lowest and the peaks cut sharpest, and keep your walking legs for Noosa's headland later; closed shoes help on the gravel.

    Why it's worth it

A skyline of ancient volcano cores rising sheer out of farmland — the most arresting roadside scenery on the run north, for the price of a short pause.

  3. 3

    Noosa

    Beach time and Hastings Street.

    About this stop

Noosa Heads pairs a calm, north-facing main beach — a rarity on Australia's east coast — with a national park whose coastal track rounds wild headlands to lookouts like Hell's Gates. Declared a World Surfing Reserve, the town has long been the Sunshine Coast's most polished resort enclave.

    Make the most of it

Swim first, walk second: take Main Beach before the midday rush, then as much of the national park track as legs allow — Boiling Pot and Dolphin Point give the best return if you turn around early. The headland is exposed, so hat, water and sunscreen are non-negotiable; koalas live in the park, so spare a glance for the treetops.

    Why it's worth it

A beach gentle enough to actually swim, a national park you walk into straight off the sand — Noosa earns its reputation the honest way.

  4. 4

    Eumundi / return

Markets when running, then back to Brisbane.

    About this stop

Eumundi is a 19th-century timber town in the Noosa hinterland, best known for the Eumundi Markets — running since 1979 and grown into one of Australia's largest artisan markets, with hundreds of stalls trading beneath the figs on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

    Make the most of it

On a market day, give it 60–90 minutes and head first for the original section under the trees, where the makers themselves run the stalls; eat early or late to dodge the lunchtime queues. On non-market days, a short stroll of the heritage streetscape is plenty before the run home.

    Why it's worth it

Handmade over mass-made — the hinterland's character distilled into one village, and the perfect wind-down before the highway south.
